This morning, I wanted to take a moment to update my friends on my condition. My body is beginning to heal from a punctured lung and fractured ribs, scapula, and collarbone—each day is a testament to endurance. With lungs weakened from the injury, finding a good sleeping position over the past ten days has been a trial. My body must remain entirely upright to avoid pressure on my back, where the broken ribs lie, and on my front, giving my lungs space to inflate. Amidst the discomfort, I’ve found a semblance of peace and comfort in my mesh home office chair, spending most nights sleeping in it. Our adjustable bed is too soft to keep me straight up, and my mid-century modern recliner lacks the overnight cushion my weary body craves.
Yesterday’s doctor’s appointment was a turning point, clearing up countless questions about my medications. This newfound clarity was a game changer. Last night, I managed to sleep upright in an actual bed for the first time, a small but significant victory. The road to recovery will be long, with another 4-6 weeks ahead. Physical therapy is on the horizon, promising to accelerate the healing process. I’m determined to get back on my motorcycle soon, aiming for a cross-country trip planned for late September. It’s an ambitious goal, but the allure of riding through Tennessee and the Carolinas in the fall with my oldest son and brother-in-law is a powerful motivator. Those shared moments are priceless, and I’m eager to create more.
This journey has been challenging, but the love and support from my family have made all the difference. I am deeply grateful for how you’ve all come together to care for me, showing what family truly means. Your unwavering commitment has been a testament to your character and love, and I am eternally thankful for each of you. Thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do. I love you more than words can express.
